Village Administrator-Clerk 
Vernon, WI (Population 7,655) 

The Village of Vernon is located in South-Central Waukesha County in Southeastern Wisconsin, adjacent to Interstate Highway 43, approximately 25 miles southwest of the Downtown Milwaukee and 90 miles from the City of Chicago. Vernon is a thriving and family-oriented community, with a small-town atmosphere and nearby big city amenities. It is adjacent to robust commercial areas, beautiful subdivisions and residential estates, excellent schools, open space and agricultural areas, local parks, recreational amenities including nationally recognized golf courses, and is in close proximity to recreational lakes and the Kettle Moraine State Forest Southern Unit.  The Fox River is a major feature within the Village, also providing exceptional active and passive recreation opportunities. 

The Vernon Village Administrator position recently has been updated to chief administrative officer of the municipal government and is responsible for the day-to-day management of Village services. The Administrator-Clerk reports directly to five Board Members, including the Village President elected on a non-partisan basis.  The position manages a total annual budget of $6.5 million, including general fund of $4.7 million, Stormwater Fund of $91,958, Debt Service Fund of $302,917 and $1.4 million Capital Improvement Fund. The position oversees 5 full-time positions and four permanent part-time positions, as well as 61 PT certified Firefighters, EMT’s and Paramedic employees. The Village has one Tax Increment Finance (TIF) District.  Challenges for the new Administrator will include replacing the financial software system, analysis of administrative functions and recommendation of alternatives, capital improvement planning and implementation, and planning for new Village municipal facilities. 

Requires Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration or related field; prefer Master’s degree with at least 3 years municipal management experience. Salary range $85,000-$110,000 DOQ. Desire a strong background in budget development/municipal finance, human resources management; election administration; grant writing, land use planning and zoning, financial planning, and accounting. The successful candidate will be an innovator, have demonstrated community leadership and organizational team building skills, the ability to work harmoniously with elected officials (including other governmental entities), developed open and positive communication and listening skills (staff and community); a high level of emotional intelligence; and has had stable and productive tenures in previous positions.
